Members at Large

Vicki "Scout" Valentine

Scout's relationship with FieldHaven began in 2006 while working as the Education Coordinator at the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary. She was organizing the event "Rescue Me" to showcase the diverse recue organizations in the Sacramento area. She had heard that FieldHaven was a great group to invite tto talk to the public about TNR. Several volunteers came out to the event and FieldHaven has been a resource for information for the zoo since that time.

When Scout retired from the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary in June, 2009, she contacted FieldHaven. Living in Lincoln, she thought it would be the perfect organization to volunteer with. She had seen a flyer about Classics, Cats & Cabernet and called Joy Smith to offer her help as an event planner. She attended several planning meetings and never looked back. She was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2009 and became a part-time staff member the following year. Although she has had an exciting career working with big cats like tigers, mountain lions, and bobcats, it is truly the small domestic kitties that capture her heart.

Laura Morin

Laura was born and raised in Palo Alto, California - a true California girl! Rather than playing with dolls, she played "vet" with her many stuffed animal friends. When she was just 12 years old, she started rehabbing native wildlife.

She applied, got in, and graduated from Moorpark College's Exotic Animal Training and Management Program. She moved to the Central Valley with her husband, Gary, where they had a 10-acre farm and owned a feed store in the small town of Hughson. Laura did fostering for a local rescue group. A "foster failure," Charlie, a black and white tuxedo cat caught her heart and made her see how cool cats can truly be. When someone says they aren't a cat person, she tells them, "You just haven't met the right one."

From there, they moved to the Foothills, where Laura found Wild About Cats and became a caregiver and handler of exotic cats, including her dream: cheetahs. Shaka and Zulu helped raise over a million dollars for wild cat conservation worldwide.

Laura has worked in the Veterinary field and just recently retired after 11 years of being an Animal Control Officer. She volunteers with Gold Country Wildlife and this past year started volunteering for Fieldhaven at the Snap it Up thrift shop. Laura currently lives on a 8 acre farm with Gary, 2 cats, 2 dogs, a Cockatoo, llamas, goats and several species of tortoise and is looking forward to her time here at FieldHaven.

Angie Barreto

Angie was born and raised in the San Francisco area, though after nearly 25 years in Rocklin, she is feeling rather native to the area. She grew up mainloy with dogs in her suburban household, but was lucky enough to be exposed to her first cat - one that came with her first apartment. Since then, cats have been part of her world with only a brief week in over 30 years without feline friend(s) and companion(s)

She is currently an independent real estate broker with 15 years experience in the South Placer area, enjoying helping her clients fulfill their dreams. She spent several years training and mentoring new agents before starting her own business. Prior to real estate, her background includes over 16 years of project accounting and administration experience for civil engineers and construction management.

Angie is excited to be working with everyone at FieldHaven and looks forward to helping them make a continued impact to the community. She enjoys listening to music, attending concerts and the theater, travelling to warm and tropical destinations with beaches, boating, swimming, wine tasting, and spending timer with her husband, George, dog Luna, and cat Zoro, along with her extended family and friends.

Natalie Mark

Animal Care Coordinator

As Animal Care Coordinator, Natalie oversees the health, care and comfort of all the cats during their stay at FieldHaven. She works Dr. Sanchez to ensure that all our felines receive the very best of care while awaiting adoption.

She spent the last 10 years volunteering as a vet technician at a high volume spay/neuter clinc and working as a behavior therapist with children and adolescents in Kansas, but always felt like something was missing. She made the decision in March 2014 to leave Dorothy and Toto behind and moved to Sacramento to go back to school to get her DVM at UC Davis.

She found FieldHaven looking for places to volunteer to gain more experience. In a very short time at Fieldhaven, she had the pleasure of working with Dr. Sanchez who introduced her to another veterinarian she works with and she was hired on as part time vet tech. Soon after, she was offered the incredible opportunity to work part time at FieldHaven.

She is a huge cat lover as well as horse lover. She currently have two wonderful crazy black cats and hope to someday have a horse who can go Fox Hunting with her.

Benay Clark

Animal Care Assistant

Benay is our Shelter Assistant and master of all trades!! She provides oversight of the shelter and our volunteers on the weekends.
